Each neighborhood has its own district police. In big cities, they don’t care. In smaller cities, they sometimes want you to register with them. In either case, asking before you move gives them plenty of reason to say no. It might be worth considering asking forgiveness instead of permission (but you didn’t hear that from me!).

Unfortunately I can’t answer that. There are too many variables: city, neighborhood, demand, etc. You need to talk with a local agent.

Interesting. The website doesn’t have a very good “About” page, so I’m a little skeptical. That said, it looks like a promising alternative (although anything listed there is going to be REALLY expensive compared to what’s on the market since it’s targeted at foreigners).

As long as you have a work visa for China, you should be able to rent an apartment no matter where the visa was issued.

That said, I would be very careful about working with a company that doesn’t have a legal entity in China. There have been foreigners who have gone to jail for doing this!

That’s a question I’ve never received before. I don’t know the answer other than to say that legally, another foreigner couldn’t lease the space without registering with the local police.

Taxation should be handled by the company that has hired you. You shouldn’t need to worry about that personally.
